Mattresses

No, while the cover is a euro-stretch flat-top type fabric that at first glance look somewhat like a memory foam mattress, that is where the similarity stops. Whether you choose the Back Science Series 2 or 3 Hybrid, that includes over a thousand count, individually wrapped steel coils, or our Series 1 all foam addition, neither of our mattresses will let you sink in like you do with memory foam and instead they produce a much more buoyant support.

Overall, the Back Science Bed tends to be on the firmer side, though Series 3 is a medium plushness and Series 2 is a luxury firm, meaning it is more plush than a regular firm, with more depth of penetration.  Either way, even the Back Science Series 1 firm mattress is still universally comfortable, thanks to the contouring proprietary extra buoyant ResiliFlex™ support base and Posture-Flex™ Gel Comfort layers™. You don't need a mattress to be as hard as a rock in order to support the spine properly. Back pain sufferers too often go to a mattress that borders on floor like firmness, thereby losing any ability to fill in the bumps and curves of the body, which will not only create pressure points over time, but lead to an imbalance of the spinal alignment

Our over 23 years of experience hand-crafting luxury mattresses using the extremely high quality, USA made materials gives us the reassurance and ability to back up that will hold up with our industry leading 30-year limited warranty.  While some customers may still want a fresh mattress every 8 to 10 years, we want you to know that we built our mattresses to maintain the proper support over the long-haul, which is why we back-up our 30-year limited warranty with only requiring ¾ of an inch of sag to trigger it, which is half of what most other companies require.  Our double the strength warranty over that long of a period gives you the reassurance that it really will stand the test of time.

Our customers who pair their mattress with an adjustable base often find they want separate adjustability on one side vs the other so they can, for example, stay up and watch TV or read while their partner lays flat to go to sleep. In this case, a split mattress design allows you to do this by having 2 separate mattress halves that can each move independently. However, many of our customers want to still be on one connected mattress with their partner, or don't like the idea of a small seam in the middle of the mattress, this is where the Split-Top® design comes in. By only splitting the head portion of the mattress and leaving the foot portion connected, you can separately adjust the head of each side from one another without feeling separated or worrying about the mattress sides moving apart from each other if you don’t have the extra side supports like you will find with the BackFlex3 adjustable bed. The Split-Top design does limit the amount of separate foot adjustability from one side vs the other, however most of our customers find that you can still get quite a bit of separate adjustability in the foot section without disturbing your partner's side.  Still confused about which design to go with? Absolutely not!  We did not want to compromise the quality of the coils, edge supports and gel foams we use by compressing and roll packing a flattened mattress into a small box in order to be able to save on shipping costs, so all of the mattresses you will receive from us will come in a full-size carton, ensuring it has the highest level of support and durability.

The testing that Dr. Swartzburg has done with hundreds of customers using mattress Checker app to evaluate the alignment of the spine has shown that firm mattresses do not necessarily align your spine better and in some cases can make it worse. The reason for this has to do with a firm mattress not allowing your shoulders to penetrate if you are a side sleeper, as well as too firm of a mattress limiting the amount of contouring support you get when you fill in the bumps and curves of your body.  With Back Science’s patented support system that includes specific Lumbar-Flex™ zoning, it will prevent your midsection from Hammocking, regardless of which series you choose.  With that said, we do recommend choosing the correct mattress based on your specific needs. Also, you can feel free to give us a call anytime speak directly with one of our Sleep consultants or email us at support@backscience.com.

We are here for you 7 days a week!  Unlike most of these fly by night mattress companies that don’t even seem to have an actual location and/or customer service team, we have a team of sleep experts, located right in our Southern California corporate office and Manufacturing facility that stand ready to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You can reach us toll-free at 800-667-1969 or email us any time at support@backscience.com.

While the gel infused foam does give a cooler feel, we don’t believe in artificially, making the mattress, feel cold, because it won’t last more than a short time. Instead, we have a patented Airflow Transfer System that makes the mattress up to 100 times more breathable, therefore, allowing body heat to escape and cooler air to ventilate through the thousands of small holes and channels that combine to give you a full circulation effect.

Unlike traditional quilted mattresses that use fiber on the surface, The Back Science series 2 and 3 mattresses are designed with over 1000 count individually wrapped coils that are combined with our special gel foam and Resili-tech comfort and specially zoned layers. This enables a more durable mattress that has no fiber to mat down on the surface, which is why we can offer such a high-level industry leading 30 year warranty with double the strength sag protection, over most of the brands on the market.

Yes, our mattresses are hypoallergenic.  First, the fact that we don’t use the traditional quilted fiber, tufted surfaces means that the mattress does not provide a good host for dust mites thanks to the higher density foam, steel coils, and viscose of Bamboo with with polyester covering.  Add to that, the fact that we use the highest quality all USA materials, Including our BioGreen Certipur-US Certifed USA Low V.O.C. Off-Gassing Foam, allowing us to achieve a Greenguard Gold Certification by UL laboratories, the third party independent testing agency under that requires the most stringent testing parameters that few companies will even pass.

Unlike the companies that produce their mattresses overseas and have them pre-shipped, in containers, we are hand-making each one of your mattresses in our Southern California manufacturing facility. That means that each mattress usually takes on average two weeks to finish, and then it gets shipped out immediately. Shipping can take an additional one to five days depending on where your zone is located.  With that said, if you do need your mattress to arrive sooner or on a specific timeframe, please email or call us and we often can meet your specific needs.

Thanks to our GripLock™ Modular Cover System, we can help you easily alter the firmness on one side of the mattress right from your home. In a case like that, we customize a new comfort and/or support layer that will be different for each side and can easily replace the single sided layer with this new split layer system. Should that need occur, simply email us at support@backscience.com or call at (800) 667-1969 and we'll be happy to help!

Checkout & Shipping

In order to avoid compromising the coils and edge support for the mattress, they are not able to be crushed flat and shipped compressed like a bed-in-a-box, so they are sent large freight via special carrier in a full-sized mattress box, and the same for the adjustable bases. Smaller items such as pillows are usually sent via ups if ordered alone and arrive within a few days. Larger items such as mattresses and bed foundations usually arrive about 1 to 5 days after they are shipped out from our facility, however, freight shipping times are just an estimate and cannot be guaranteed due to factors beyond our control such as changing weather conditions along the trucks' route. Mattresses are mostly made-to-order and take around 2 weeks for manufacturing unless they are in stock.

Our Back Science™ Mattresses are backed by our industry-leading 30-Year Limited Warranty which offers double the coverage and strength of most mattress warranties. The warranty is in place to cover you against dips / sag in your mattress occurring over time. Most mattress warranties will not cover you until you have a dip of at least 1.5 inches, however, our warranty covers you at only 3/4 inch for twice the protection. Getting a dip in your mattress is the quickest way to put your alignment off and cause aches and pains in your sleep. Even though the quality of the Back Science mattresses stands above the competition by holding up better over time, you can rest assured under the protection of our warranty that you'll have quality sleep for decades to come.
